've been following since 4:30 this morning. a water main break on jackson. ktvu's alex savidge was first on the scene and joins us to tell us when crews expect to have the water shut off. it was supposed to be at 7:00. but that's no longer the case? >> reporter: that's correct. the time frame, obviously being pushed back. it's a very complicated process from what i understand as they are still trying to isolate where the break is on this underground water line and what those workers are doing from the city of hayward's water department, they are checking the valves near this intersection trying to see which one of them will shut off the water. obviously they haven't found it yet. lanes of traffic are closed down. more of them have opened up. so cars are coming through. this is jackson and santa clara streets. as you can see, it's right near the ent transto 880 -- entrance to 880. water is still running down the street. this is what it looked like when this 12-inch line ruptured. firefighters were called in to cut off the flow of water. it wasn't a simple fix. so apparently, the water dep
eve. ktvu channel 2 morning news continues. >>> good morning. it is monday december 31st i'm tori campbell in for pam cook. >> and i'm dave clark. let's check weather, traffic, steve is right there. you'll need a few minutes to warm up the car. >> for most. there is a couple inland definitely. some 40s near the city and around the bay. inland there is a lot of 30s and upper 20s. mostly sunny, partly cloudy. that system coming in will spin in higher clouds. upper 40s low 50s. here is tara. >> thanks steve. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza where you can see traffic moving nicely into san francisco. and this is a look at the san mateo bridge where you can see the same story. traffic on the right heading toward the foster city. opposite side toward hayward. let's head over to dave and tori. >>> now we are hearing from neighbors in san francisco. those that were awakened by an early morning house fire and broken gas line. ktvu alex savidge is at the scene and i know you have video of flames shooting up from this broken pipe that you will only see right here on channel 2. goo
that was on fire. flames shot in the air on athens around 1:00 this morning. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live from the scene with video you will only see on channel 2. alex? >> reporter: well, good morning. the fire inside of that home is what triggered a second fire that came from the curbside gas valve right outside the home. that's why you see pg&e crews still doing last-minute repair work to patch up the road where they had to dig things up to access that line. that second fire coming from the gas line certainly made things difficult for firefighters this morning, as the fire ripped through both floors of the home, and flames from the natural gas line shot 15 feet in the air. the homeowners had to wait for the pg&e to turn off the gas line. this started around 1:00 on the 100 block of athens street. there were four people inside the home at the time of the fire. two of them were sent to the hospital with possible smoke inhalation. a neighbor i talked with this morning told me he feels lucky this fire didn't spread to his house next door. >> grateful, you know, it was pretty smoky downstairs wh

savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >>> it is 5:03. firefighters continue to look for answers in an apartment fire that killed a couple and their young granddaughter. the fire started saturday night just after 11:00 at a two story apartment building on bridge port court. 56-year-old bomaro his wife and their four-year-old granddaughter kira died in the fire. more than 50 other people were displaced and now being helped by the red cross. janine de la vega will have a live report coming up at 5:30. >>> time is 5:03. just about 16 hours from right now the u.s. economy will go over the fiscal cliff unless congress and the white house can work out a last minute deal. if there is no new budget deal by midnight tonight east coast time income tax rates will go up for all americans. coming up at 5:15 the two men leading the last minute negotiations. >>> the chp is trying to figure out what led up to a crash that killed a motorcycle rider in concord last night. it happened just before 6:30 on kicker pass road. the chp says no other cars were involved and it's unclear why the driver lost control. >>> th
